Safety for women in public spaces is still a major issue for many women around the world, even in 2017 and in a city like London where 45% of women have experienced some form of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking.
Sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence occur every day for women and girls globally. It happens on streets, in and around schools, parks and workplaces.
The number of offences against women, including domestic abuse, rape and sexual assaults last year rose by almost 10% to 117,568, which is a significant number moving in the wrong direction.
Violence and sexual harassment in public spaces restricts a woman’s freedom and negatively impacts both their physical and mental health. The problem cannot be fully addressed until we as a society fully accept the problem at hand.
